Peter Charles DiMaggio

Peter Charles DiMaggio passed away peacefully at his Metairie Home on May 14, 2023, in the care of his loving family at the age of 94. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jennie DiMaggio, in July of 2010. He is survived by his three children, Ronald DiMaggio, Sr., Deanna DiMaggio Marshall (Allen) and David DiMaggio (Lynda).

PawPaw will be sorely missed by his grandchildren, Ronald DiMaggio, Jr. (Lisa), Dawn DiMaggio, Jenna Marshall, Isabella DiMaggio-Shanks (Austin), and Joseph DiMaggio, as well as his great-grandchildren, Anna, Lukas, Sadie, and Desmond. Peter was born on May 20, 1928, in Tickfaw, Louisiana. He was one of 10 children born to the late Frank and Josephine DiMaggio.

Peter was a loving husband for 57 years and was a dedicated father. He loved making his waffles every Sunday and baking his fresh homemade bread to share with everyone. He loved to dance, especially with his wife, Jennie. He was a social butterfly and loved to interact with family and friends; no one was a stranger to Peter. He was a great mechanic and enjoyed fixing things for others. He was a great teacher and taught us how to fix things. He was great at playing checkers and solving puzzles, especially Sudoku puzzles.

Peter had joined the Armed Forces of the United States (Army) in November 1950. He served in Italy building bridges to aid the military with access to various areas. He was honorably discharged in November 1952. Peter was a member of the Millwright Local Union no. 1931 and no. 729 since 1965. He was very proud of being a member for over 58 years. He became an honorary member in 2015 after 50 years of membership.

There will be a small graveside service honoring Peter on Friday morning, May 19, 2023, at 11:30 am at Greenlawn Garden Mausoleum, 1005 Western Avenue in Hammond, LA for family and close friends.
