Raymond Lee Peacock, Sr., passed away peacefully on Monday, June 30, 2025, at 5:15 am surrounded by loads of love. Ray was a ‘good ole’ country boy’ from Mansfield, LA born on November 28, 1941, to H.L. Peacock and Louise Jackson Bickham, with whom he shared a birthday.
Left to cherish his memory include his wife, Gail Russell Peacock, precious Penny Lane, daughters D’Anna Looney (Troy) and Kyndel Peacock-McCurley, sisters, Brenda Fleniken (Joe Craig) and Tabatha Sparks (Greg). He was a proud PawPaw Peacock to Christopher and Jeffrey (Abby) Bell, Timothy (Adine) Looney, Luna Looney, and Richard ‘Kai’ McCurley. Great-grandchildren include Tucker, Brady, and Madeline Bell and Tallen, Jade, and Ana Looney. He will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews, present and past employees and countless friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his children, Stacy Gay and Raymond Lee Peacock, Jr., and Woodrow ‘Buddy’ Bell (Lori), along with his siblings Glenn (Lora Faye), Linda, Marlin, Sheila, and William Hines Peacock, and son-in-law Richard ‘Ricky’ McCurley.
A Graduate of Mansfield High School, he later attended Northeastern University where he would gamble away his weekly allowance. Ray was also a veteran of the United States Air Force, stationed in Biloxi, MS, teaching slide rule to up and coming pilots. After the Air Force, he commandeered a corvette and hightailed it to New Orleans on the road to realizing the start of his illustrious dreams.
Certainly, he could not fathom the range of his impact throughout the City of New Orleans and her surrounding parishes. From beautiful hotels and fine restaurants to auction galleries and antique jewelry stores, he put his personal touch on every project he completed, all while demonstrating a passion for creativity. As a creative visionary whose mind was like no other, he was always optimistic about the future and seeing opportunities where others saw obstacles.
As an avid skier (in shorts), he enjoyed his trips to Lake Tahoe where he could not only ski his heart out on black runs but spend the remainder of his day in the Sportsbook eating hotdogs with chili and cheese with his puppy Sierra betting every Superfecta at America’s racetracks, sometimes successfully, sometimes not so much. An avid tennis player (also in shorts), he enjoyed many Sunday mornings drinking mimosas with his less fortunate tennis partners (depending on who tells the story). His favorite part of the day was dropping them off on their doorsteps for family to take over. Happy Hour will be forever changed in Heaven: Mimosas and Bloody Marys for everybody! Despite all the entertaining times, he was the consummate gentleman, holding the door open until the very end.
He loved his work. He loved his friends. But, above everything else, he loved his family.
The family wishes to express a sincere thank you to his caring and compassionate personal caregivers, Lindy, Daisy, and Elizabeth, and his nurse Joy, who cared for him and his family in his final moments.
A Celebration of Ray's memorable life will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Blvd. in Metairie, LA. Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm with a service to follow.
