

A proud member of the Greatest Generation, Remi T. DeLouche, Jr., slipped from our lives and into the arms of our Heavenly Father on Tuesday, November 8, 2016. He was born in Cloutierville, Louisiana to Remi T. and Lucille (Rachal) DeLouche on March 11, 1917. As a young man he settled in Metairie, Louisiana. After Hurricane Katrina in August of 2005, he and his wife Dottie, relocated to Baton Rouge where he lived out the remainder of his life. During WWII, R.T. (as he was known by his family and friends) enlisted in the Army Air Corps, now known as U.S. Air Force. After private pilot training he was stationed in the North African Theatre, Italy. On August 27, 1943, his B-25 Mitchell was shot down over Solerno, Italy. He survived the crash, was captured, and then held as a prisoner of war at Poggio Mireto, near Rome. By September 8th, 1944, Italy had been invaded by the Allied Forces, which ended the fighting in Italy. The guards abandoned the camp where R.T. was being held. He was now free and living in the mountains of Italy until the Spring of 1944. He was then captured by the Germans and sent to Stalag Luft III. He was finally liberated on April 29, 1945. Upon his return to civilian life, R.T. married his beloved wife of sixty years Dorothy, whom he loving referred to as “Dottie or Dot”. He then graduated from Loyola University Law School. Upon completion of law school, he spent his career as an attorney for Chevron, working in the Land Department. He loved going out to eat and spending time with those closest to him. Known for his quick wit and moves on the dance floor he was often seen as the life of the party. He also enjoyed playing golf, travelling with Dottie and cheering on his beloved Tigers and Saints! He was preceded in death by his parents, Remi T. and Lucille (Rachal); wife Dorothy (Diesem); sister Julia O’Neal; brothers George and Vic Benoist. He is survived by his children Remi R. Sr., (Kathy), Annette, Robert, (Susan); grandchildren Rachal, Remi R. Jr., (Ashley), Marshall and Amy Elder; nephew Fr. Norman O’Neal. R.T.’s family would like to extend special thanks to the residents and staff of Lake Sherwood Village, his home for the past 10 years. The family would also like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Oschner Hospital, O’Neal Lane Campus, Baton Rouge and to the staff of Promise Hospital, Oschner Campus, who cared for him with such compassion during his stay there. Visitation will be held at Jesuit High School Chapel of the North American Martyrs at 11:00 am Thursday, November 10, 2016, with Mass to follow at 12:00 noon. He will be interred at Lake Lawn Cemetery in Metairie, Louisiana. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the WWII Museum in memory of Remi T.
