Ronald Edward Ripple passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2016, at the age of 83 years. He was the beloved husband of Peggy Mooney Ripple for 63 years, and the proud father of five children – Mike, Steve (Jan), Mark (Mary), Joanne, and Peggy (Hoagie). Son of the late Clarence Edward Ripple and Kate Oberlin Ripple, and brother of Connie Lamb (Quen). Grandfather of Shelly, Kyle, and Kate Ripple, Michael and Sarah Ripple, Brent and Caroline Herman, Lori and Kelly Ripple, and survived by nine great-grandchildren. Born in Canton, Ohio in 1932, Ron moved to New Orleans in 1938 and graduated from Warren Easton High School in 1950. His family spent their summer weekends in Bay St Louis, MS, where he met “the wife of his life”, Peggy Mooney, and married in 1952. From an early age he was interested in carpentry and sailing, having spent his early years near Higgins Industries, and building his first wooden sailboat at age 12. By age 20 he was a Higgins foreman building minesweepers , then started his own residential construction company, Ripple Remodeling Co, at age 24. His intense work ethic and focus were central to a successful 50-year career in construction, property management and boat restorations. He was a man of great passion and simple values: his wife Peg, his extended family, and his lifelong love of the sea. When all three came together, life was indeed magical. Intense yacht races in the early years, summer vacations in the Bahamas and Florida Keys on the yacht Pride, Gulf of Mexico crossings, cruises to Belize and Guatemala, boat charters on the Rhine and the Shannon rivers, and cruise ship vacations worldwide … experiences shared with an endless array of nieces and nephews, inlaws, children and grandchildren. We will remember “Poppi Ron” for his infectious laugh, his generosity of spirit, and his amazing devotion to his wife Peg. Funeral services will be held at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Boulevard, Metairie, Louisiana 70006. There will be two visitations: Thursday, April 7, 2016 from 6 – 8 pm, and Friday, April 8, 2016 from 10 am – 1 pm, followed by the mass of Christian burial in the chapel at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home.
