Solveig Nedland Pedersen Price, known as Solie, Mom, Nana and Aunt by family and friends who loved her, passed from this life to Heaven on August 30, 2025, at the age of 99 years and 25 days and is now with George, her beloved husband of 71 years, who preceded her in death on August 12, 2020.
Solie was born in the city of New Orleans, LA on August 5, 1926, the daughter of the late Olaf Nedland Pedersen and Ellen Askeland of Stavanger, Norway. She was the youngest of seven siblings: Olaf Jr., Lars, Einar, Ellinor, Jan, and Haral, who all preceded her in death. Solie’s parents settled in New Orleans after Immigrating from Norway to New York with her three oldest brothers on November 26, 1911.
Solie had a wonderful fun-filled childhood where she met many life-long friends. With six siblings there was always plenty to do. Solie graduated from Eleanor McMain High School during WWII, and afterwards, attended Soule’ Business College, then worked as an executive secretary at WDSU in New Orleans until she married.
As a proud Norwegian American, she loved participating in celebrations held at the Norwegian Seaman’s Church which her father helped establish. She was beautiful in her traditional Norwegian Hardanger costume.
In 1949, Solie married the love of her life, George F. Price, Jr. Together they established a large family that continues to grow each year. Solie was a loving mother and homemaker who raised her children with great pride, while George (a Merchant Marine Captain) was at sea for months at a time. They loved entertaining family, friends and their extended families at their home every holiday, especially New Years’ Eve. Solie (Nana) kept a calendar with family and friends’ special days on it and made sure it was current and up to date. Everyone’s birthday or anniversary meant a card, phone call or a text from Solie and George (Nana and Popie) was assured.
Solie is survived by seven children: Carolyn Price Jennings, George F. Price III (Jackie), Robert Wayne Price (Debi), Kenneth Michael Price (Karan), John Richard Price (Kim), James Scott Price (Claudia), Jan Nedland Price Wahlen (Eric); 18 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. Solie was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Gary Jennings; a grandson, Chris Beard, and two great-grandchildren, Amaris Ruvalcaba, and Victor George Price.
