William “Bill” Randall passed away peacefully at his home at the age of 57 in the company of his wife and brother. Bill was a man of simple needs who loved dogs, German beer, New Orleans food, listening to music, and sitting on his back porch at sundown. He was a technical writer by profession and, as was fitting, had a passion for reading, fine pens, and the Oxford comma. He grew up in Tallulah, Louisiana and always said, “The good thing about growing up in a small town is that everyone knows you. The bad thing about growing up in a small town is that everyone knows you.” He married and moved to the New Orleans area after attending Louisiana Tech University. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Donna Williams, his son, C. Skylar Randall, and his brother and sister-in-law, Allen and Alysia Randall and their child, Jessica. Additional survivors are: his mother- and father-in-law, Helen and Richard Williams; sister-in-law and husband, Sharon and Brian Andrews and their children, Evan and Jonah; brother-in-law and wife, Richard and Jayne Williams and their child, Ryan; and sister-in-law and husband Erika and Matthew Green and their child, Chloe.
While Donna’s obsessive need to organize drove him crazy, in the end, he appreciated this most about her. He loved being a father, to the point of spending hours upon hours over the years sitting at chess tournaments with Skylar, which he described as like watching paint dry. Beyond a doubt, his pride and joy was Skylar and nothing made him happier than talking about or being with his son.
A memorial service will be held on March 6, 2020 at St. Matthews United Methodist Church (6017 Camphor St. in Metairie) at 11:00 am with a reception to follow. If desired, donations may be made in his memory to “Cancer Control” at the LSU Health New Orleans Foundation; a student scholarship fund in cancer control will be set up.
