With heavy hearts and tremendous love, we announce the passing of Abelin Andrew Rodriguez - known as Abe to some and Andrew to others – a beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend, whose presence, personality, and unforgettable laugh will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Andrew was one of four siblings and was preceded in death by his loving parents, Abelin and Isabel Rodriguez; his beloved wife, Patricia Anne Rodriguez (nee Costanzo); and his dear sister, Grace Way. He leaves behind his brother, Reuben Callejas; his sister, Yolanda Alvarez; his daughter, Theresa (Terri) Schilthorn, and many family members and friends who were blessed to share in his life.
Family was at the very heart of who Andrew was, and he embraced as family many individuals that he took into his heart and cared for as his own. His devotion to his parents, his wife, Pat, and his daughter, Terri, was like no other. He loved deeply, remained fiercely connected to, and protective of, those closest to him, and understood the importance of family and friends and being there for the people he loved.
At the center of Andrew’s life was his daughter, Terri, who remained faithfully by his side through his final moments. Their bond was one of tremendous love and devotion, and there could have been no greater gift than for Andrew to have his daughter beside him as his journey on earth came to an end.
Andrew also had a deep appreciation for the beauty of life around him. He loved nature, animals, parks, orchids, space and traveling; finding joy and awe in experiencing the world’s natural wonders. He had a special love of dogs, wildlife (especially polar bears), national parks and forests, and was an avid fan of PBS/NPR, National Geographic, science fiction, history and mysteries. His love of, and gift for growing, orchids was especially meaningful – a reflection, perhaps, of his appreciation for those unique and beautiful creations in life that deserve to be noticed and cared for.
Those who knew Andrew will remember him in their own special way. Perhaps it will be through a story he told, a trip or adventure shared together, a beautiful orchid that blooms and brings him to mind, or simply the sound of that big, unforgettable laugh that could fill a room.
While our hearts are saddened by his passing, we choose to celebrate the life he lived, the places he experienced, the family and friends he cherished, and the memories that will continue to bring both tears and smiles, but most of all love.
Andrew’s story does not end with his passing. It continues through his daughter, his brother and sister, his extended family, his friends, and every person who carries a memory of Abe, Andrew, Uncle Andrew – whatever name they were fortunate to call him.
Rest peacefully, Andrew. Know that you are deeply loved; will be greatly missed and never will be forgotten. Until we meet again…
