Adelfa was born in Guines, Cuba. She came to the United States as a child with her family, who were seeking freedom after the Cuban Revolution.
Adelfa graduated from Florida International University and worked several jobs, including a long stint in the accounting department at Florida, Power and Light. Seeking to fulfill her desire to become an attorney, Adelfa attended the University of Miami’s law school and graduated in 2000. For a quarter of a century, she tenaciously fought for immigrants, many of them Cuban, who sought to live in the U.S. and enjoy the same freedoms she and her family were able to secure many years earlier.
Adelfa was diagnosed in 2024 with ALS, an illness with no cure.
In life, Adelfa enjoyed dancing, reading, watching soap operas and spending quality time with family and friends. She was an intelligent, caring, funny person who will be missed by many.
Adelfa’s survivors include her husband Manuel Miguel, sons Adrian Sainz and Andre Miguel, and her sisters Adela Garcia, Ana Maria Alvarez and Aimee Trujillo. Adelfa was preceded in death by her father Emilio Trujillo, mother Araceli Trujillo and sister Ari Suarez.
Those who love Adelfa can send flowers to the funeral home, or make a donation to the ALS Foundation.
