He leaves his beloved Wife, Margarita (nee Matosas). They were married for 65 years. Alan was a wonderful and devoted husband, father and grandfather who held God, family & country as his guiding lights.
Alan was a man of excellence and detail in all endeavors. He showed exceptional business acumen from an early age and with his wife and partner Margarita, built several businesses including Small Cars Limited (Volkswagen & Porsche) before retiring to live in Coral Gables, Florida.
He delved into his ancestry and was able to trace his family back to the 16th century and was proud of his lineage. He mastered the study of Foreign Exchange and mentored many who benefited from his guidance. All his life, he maintained a keen interest in current affairs and avidly adopted new technologies as they came along. He became intrigued with AI.
As one of his hobbies, Alan became a leading expert on the propagation and cultivation of the Jamaican “Scotch Bonnet” pepper and ensured that they were grown and enjoyed far and wide beyond Jamaica. He would gladly share the peppers with the nurses at the hospital and was affectionately called “Dr. Pepper”.
By the Grace of God and dedicated efforts of his medical team, headed by Dr. Talia Zahra, he kept the dreaded leukemia disease at bay and taught us what courage and determination can achieve even in the face of great adversity.
Most of all, Alan will be remembered by his family and his large and diverse group of friends as a wonderful son, brother, husband, father, grandpa, and a true family man; and as a loyal and faithful friend, advisor, confidante and mentor. He was truly a gentleman and a “Man for All Seasons”, whose uplifting and always enjoyable presence will be greatly missed, even as his memory and influence will endure for a long time.
Alan also leaves behind his children: David (Rebeca), Ingrid (Andrew), and Deborah (Joseph); grandchildren: Alan (Adriana), Christian (Kimberly), Jacob (Jenna), Nicholas (Natalia), Stephanie (Stephanie), and Tristan (Tiffany); great‑grandchildren: Aurora, Josephine, Liam, and Luca; as well as his beloved doggie, Buddy.
Rest in Peace Alan – you led a full and distinguished life and have earned your place in God’s Paradise.
