Antonio ‘Tony’ Emilio Rios was a loving son, husband, father, father-in-law, abuelo, brother, uncle, and a friend to many. He left this world peacefully and suddenly on November 20, 2021, at the age of 90.
Tony was born to Antonio Manuel Rios y Cadenas and Emilia Vicenta Lavale y Font on September 1, 1931 in Havana, Cuba. He married the love of his life, Margarita Leira Rios in Cuba in July 1955. Tony is survived by his wife, Margarita; three children: Antonio, Jorge (m. Isabel Mato), and Ana (m. Christopher John Quinn). He had five grandchildren: Krista Rios, Jorge Rios (m. Natascha Quirch), Francisco Rios, Kevin Quinn, and Liam Quinn; his brother, Rolando Rios (d. Melva); nieces Cary and Melva.
Tony lived a full and balanced life. A devout Catholic, who always prioritized his trust and faith in God, served his family with passion, unconditional love, care, concern, and grace and was an amazing role model to all who crossed his path. He experienced an expansive 50+ year career with Esso Standard Oil / Exxon Mobile as Controller and Chief Financial Advisor with positions in Cuba, Puerto Rico and Florida while travelling extensively across Latin America.
Tony will be fondly remembered for his loving patience, faith, genuine nature, quick-wit, honesty, integrity, humility, insatiable curiosity, helping others without seeking recognition or acknowledgment, and empathy towards all. He had a disarming sense of humor with an infectious laugh that captured the hearts of all.
"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me (Jesus). My Father's house (heaven) has many rooms; if that were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me, that you also may be where I am." John 14:1-3
To honor Tony’s memory, in lieu of flowers, please donate to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital, his favorite cause.
