

She was born on August 4, 1924 in Sancti Spíritus, Cuba, the second of eight children of Pedro Mendiguren and Juana Guerricaiz.
She grew up in Havana, and as a child spent time in Vizcaya, Spain. She was a track athlete and Miss Sports 1941.
On December 8, 1946, she married the love of her life, Dr. Fidel Aguirre Medrano. They fled Cuba in pursuit of freedom to the United States where they lived in St. Petersburg, Florida and Elizabeth, New Jersey with their children and nephew Dr. Angel Cadiz before moving to Miami.
Over their 53 years of marriage they traveled extensively across Latin America, Europe and Asia.
Begoña was kind, elegant and selfless. Her life was dedicated to her family and faith. She never forgot a birthday and especially enjoyed attending her 12 grandchildren’s and 18 great-grandchildren’s school, musical and sporting events.
She is predeceased by her parents; husband; daughter Guadalupe Aguirre Capote; sisters, Miren Cadiz and Amaya del Alamo; brothers Iñaki and Sabin Mendiguren; nephews Francisco Naval and Pedro del Alamo; and great-nephew Joseph Capocciama.
She is survived by her daughter Maria Begoña and husband Alfonso J Lopez, daughters Adriana and Vivian; daughter Mercedes and husband Dr. Francisco Tudela, children Francisco, Olga and Carlos; son Dr. Frank Aguirre and wife Gladys, children Francisco, Chiara and Celine; son-in-law Dr. Pedro Capote, children Natalia, Alejandro, Lisa and Daniel.
She is also survived by her sister Mica Naval; brothers Jon and Andoni Mendiguren; and sisters-in-law Pilar and Lilia Mendiguren.
A mass of remembrance will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at 11:30 AM at St. Louis Catholic Church in Pinecrest, Florida, followed by interment at Miami Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Saint Jude Children’s Hospital or Trinitas Health Foundation in Elizabeth, New Jersey.
