Born in Holguin, Cuba on July 7th, 1933, the youngest of 9 siblings. Arrived in the US in 1954 at the age of 21 to try and make a better life for himself. After a few years working in various jobs, he met Ena Villegas at a community dance in Miami Beach and within 3 months they were married in 1958. He had many jobs and always a hard worker and determined to make a good life for him and his wife. By the age of 26 he had his first daughter and by the age of 28 his twin daughters arrived and by the age of 32 his last daughter was born.
Without knowing the English language and refusing to learn he worked his way until he along with his brother-in-law opened the first Cuban grocery store in Miami in the early 60’s “La Barata.” Throughout the 60’s and early 70’s they helped many families that came from Cuba as refugees with only the clothes on their backs. They provided food and groceries for them and helped until they were settled and established in Miami and were able to provide for their families and themselves. He was a simple man with a good heart always helping whoever he could. He loved his family and went many times to visit them in Cuba. He loved his nephews, especially Jose Luis, who was the son he never had! He had many friends throughout his lifetime, and they loved him dearly. They all knew him as “El Guajiro”
Through all his hard work and efforts, he was able to own 3 grocery stores between the 60’s and 70’s. Along with his wife Ena, raised 4 daughters and provided them with the best life that they could give them. He enjoyed music, his farm life, going to cock fights and most of all going to the casino and playing slots. He had a full life and always enjoyed it without care.
He went in peace and now has reunited with his wife of 56 years. He is survived by his 4 daughters, Elina Mir-Hevia, Elaine Bello, Evett Mir-Era and Enid Mir, his 4 grandchildren Elaiza Bello, Angel Era, Laurenz Bello and Eric Bello, his two great granddaughters Adelynn Marie and Victoria Sophia.
May he RIP and have Gods eternal light always.
