It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Doris, who passed away peacefully on February 14, 2026, after a lengthy illness. She was predeceased by her husband Albert and her daughter Andrea. She is survived by her children Monroe (Ling), Judith, Lissa (Ronald) and Jeffrey, grandchildren Glenn (Lingyi), Colin (Stephanie), Lauren (Greg) and great-grandson Kian. She was 95 years old.
Doris, whose Chinese name was Tsang Chiu Heung was born on July 22, 1930, in Guangdong, China.
In 1949, at age 19, she courageously journeyed alone from Hong Kong to Jamaica to begin a new life with her husband, Albert. From the very beginning, her life was shaped by devotion, sacrifice, and love for the family she was building.
An entrepreneur at heart, she and her husband started a successful retail business in Jamaica, which grew into 2 stores.
In 1977, due to the political climate and violence in Jamaica, Doris and Albert and their family fled Jamaica for the United States. They left what they had built over the years in Jamaica and settled in Miami where they had to rebuild from scratch.
In 1980, Doris and Albert bought a Chinese Restaurant in Miami Beach, which they managed for 11 years until Albert’s passing.
In retirement, Doris became a member of The Chinese Baptist Church of Miami and was baptized there. She developed a passion for gardening and grew mangoes, dragon fruit and other tropical fruits as well as various Chinese vegetables. An accomplished cook, she prepared many delicious meals for her family. She also learned to bake and cook from various recipes she would research from YouTube videos on her tablet computer. Every year, she hosted the Annual Family Thanksgiving Dinner where family members from different parts of the world would come to reconnect.
