Frances Marie (Periú) Ginsberg, of Miami, FL, affectionately known as Fran to her loved ones, passed away on November 16, 2025, at the age of 60. Fran was a cherished daughter, mother, sister and friend, born on March 11, 1965, to Olga Llera Periú and late Manuel Ignacio Periú, also of Miami, FL.
Fran’s life is defined by her fierce love for her family, her animals, and her community. She is survived by the three loves of her life: Connor Periú Ginsberg (Ted Alexander), Jordan Periú Ginsberg (Abigail Shea), and Chase Periú Ginsberg. As a loving sister, she is survived by Manuel Periú, and as a devoted Aunt Tati by Nichole Lili Periú and Samantha Taylor Periú.
Her journey in Connecticut began in West Hartford in 1969 with her father’s job at the telephone company. There, she learned the importance of community, family, and friendship. She graduated from Conard High School in 1983 alongside her lifelong friends. Fran’s first passion was her career as a full-time mom, until she became everyone’s mom, and opened her own business, Havana Fran’s Barber Shop. To just call it a barbershop does not quite capture what she created, because Fran was not just a barber; she was a presence. Anyone who walked through her door knows exactly what that means. She didn’t simply cut hair. She lifted spirits, shared stories, asked the questions that mattered, and somehow sent people back into the world feeling a little more grounded, and a lot more themselves. Her chair had a special kind of magic, and she treated everyone who sat with her like an old friend.
Beyond her work, Fran carried an unmistakable light. She moved through the world with a blend of strength and softness that drew people in. She cared deeply for her family, her friends, her clients, her community – her people – and you felt that the moment you met her. With Fran, you felt seen. You felt welcomed. You felt held. Losing her might leave an empty chair in the shop, but it also leaves an imprint on the countless lives she touched – a warmth that does not fade.
Fran’s legacy is one of kindness, love, and unwavering friendship. Her smile, her laughter, and her ability to make everyone feel like family will be deeply missed. Though her passing leaves an immense void, her memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend funeral services on Monday December 15th, 2025. To share in her spirit, the family welcomes you to join them by incorporating her favorite “color,” leopard (or animal) print into your attire.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to Scissor Society Inc., a nonprofit organization based in Hartford, Connecticut that uses the art of barbering as a tool for education, empowerment, and community transformation.
