George Francis Trudeau was born the second oldest of five children to Homer Joseph Trudeau and Frances Marie Rand in Coral Gables Hospital (Miami, Florida) on June 17th, 1953. He had three brothers and a sister - Joe Trudeau (born 1952), Eddie & Leonard Trudeau (twins born 1954, sadly Eddie passed soon after birth), and Judy Trudeau (born 1956) - who grew up in the house George still resided in when he passed away.
He attended Merrick Elementary and St. Theresa School in Coral Gables. After a very short time at Columbus High School, he transferred to Coral Gables High School - representing their class of 1971. Growing up, George had a passion for motor vehicles which flourished when he started working at Baney’s mechanic shop in South Miami as a teenager. After about a decade in the profession, he definitely knew his way around cars and always claimed he could build a VW engine with his eyes closed.
On January 26th, 1981, George followed his brother Leonard to the County and worked as a correctional officer for 26 years, where he made many cherished friends. His correctional career started in the court system. He first worked with the Hon. Harold Solomon, and then with the Hon. Ellen Morphonios who mentioned him in her book numerous times which he was very proud of. In 1991 he was transferred to Ward D at Jackson Memorial Hospital and spent his last few years at the Metro West facility where he was stationed to outside patrol and North Control until his retirement on April 2nd, 2007.
In the midst of justice, he found love. Mary, a court reporter who sat in front of him during court calendars, captured his heart and they married on November 12th, 1988. Love continued to pour into George’s life upon the birth of his two children - their first, Alyson Marie Trudeau (born April 9th, 1990) and their second, George Francis Trudeau II (born December 6th, 1992). They were truly the light of his life.
Other than his wife and children, George had many joys. He loved fireworks and had epic 4th of July parties, with unforgettable displays that people still talk about today. He loved an adventure and fulfilled one of his lifelong dreams of traveling through Italy with his wife, sister and brother-in-law in May of 2019. He loved gardening and his yard, including all the fruits, vegetables, plants and trees that grew there. He also loved to cook and knew exactly how to bring the flavor to anything he made. One would say he was a man of the sea. He and his “Mahi Gang” were ready to fish anytime/anywhere - and he never missed a chance to tell you all about it. Despite growing up in the sun, George loved cold weather and the snow. He and Mary bought a condo in Seven Devils, NC which was lovingly renamed Eight Devils by his family whenever he was there. He enjoyed spending time with loved ones in the mountains, and most of all feeding the deer and wild turkey off the balcony of the condo.
George was also a Friend of Bill. He acted as Sunset room manager for many years and was responsible for organizing several of their program picnics. He also enjoyed cooking for the spaghetti dinner put on by the South Miami Mens Group. His devotion to the fellowship allowed him to serve many as a source of guidance and inspiration, and he loved everyone involved. The fellowship saved his life in many ways, filling his final years with deep gratitude and purpose. His strong belief in God, his higher power, brought comfort and ease into his heart.
In early 2021, George was diagnosed with cancer and underwent brutal treatment. He fought hard but could not fight anymore and succumbed to the disease on July 26th, 2023, surrounded by his family.
George was predeceased by his parents and his brothers Joe, Leonard and Eddie. He is survived by his wife, Mary; his children, Alyson and George (Naomi) Trudeau; his sister Judy (Michael) Rescigno, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
We will miss him dearly, and until we meet him again, may we be blessed with his gracious good mornings from Heaven above.
