Georgina Hinds was born to Leonora Cox-Hinds and Norman Theofilus Hinds on February 11, 1934 in Central Delícías-Oriente, Cuba. The youngest of eight children, Georgina was known as ‘Ñeca’, which is short for the word ‘Muñeca’ – the Spanish word for ‘Doll’.
It can be said with certainty that though small in stature, Georgina, or Ñeca as she was affectionately called, was not small in many other aspects. Her love, generosity, kindness, humor, smile and yes-cooking skills were magnanimous! Ñeca was a formidable, energetic spirit in a petite package that kept going…and going...and going...and going…
Georgina grew up and lived in her beloved Cuba until the spring of 1960 when she immigrated to the United States. It was during this time that Ñeca left her family and adopted another extended family – The Schwartzs. With the benevolence of Phillip and Frances Schwartz, Georgina worked diligently, became a US citizen, and began living her American Dream in New York City. Georgina was a dedicated employee of the Nassau Nursing Home in Oceanside, New York for 25 years until her retirement in 2001.
Georgina worked hard for her family as well. Time spent not working was often filled with family, friends and travel. In addition, Georgina was also a seasoned traveler who checked off the Middle East, Europe and the Caribbean as “been there-done that!”
Those who really knew Georgina knew that family was extremely important to her, and that you didn’t have to be biologically related to be a part of her family. Extended family members include but are not limited to the following individuals: Beatrice (The Mandry Family); Miguel, Nora, Benjamin, Bernard (The Moore Family); Marta (The Walwyn Family); Noemi (The Dias Family); Elsie (The Williams Family); Alberto Rodriguez, Raymond Dos Santos, Eulicer Garces, Emilio Garces, Ana Garcia, Rafael Praderes, Jaime (The Marshall Family), Lemuel (The Goddard Family), Ivan (The Ross Family), Marilyn & Alan (The Morris Family), Robert, Michael, Richard, Judy, Ellen and Mona (The Schwartz Family).
Georgina’s life touched many. Georgina leaves to mourn a host of family, extended family and friends. Those include her sisters (Alicia and Delsa), brother (Lemuel), Nieces (Josefina, Emilia, Rachel, Carmen, Miriam, Beaulah, Doreen, Priscilla, Leonora, Carmen, Mavis, Mariella, Marilyn, Linaida); Nephews (Haroldo, Ernesto, Francisco, Jr.); and a host of great nieces and nephews: Carl Gerald, Dennis, Carolina, Virginia, Jerome, Paul, Roy, Ulysses, Joshua, Jasmine, Kassmeera, Celina, Carlos, Zenaida, Romelia, Maria Elena, Zurama, Adis, Natividad, Luisander, Anuvis, Olga Lilia, Rafael, Legna, Yanelis, Yulaisi, Daisi, Aroldo, Javier, Jorge Emilio, Yordan, Yasiel, Jorge, Alejandro, Andrea, Gean, Alejandro, Vincent, Ninosca, Alicia, Ernestico, Bibi and Christian.
On Friday, August 12th at 12:10PM, the Lord called our Beloved to his bosom after a valiant battle with illness. Neca fought the good fight, and as a baptized Sister of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, she now rests…and waits for the return of the Blessed Hope.
Georgina was preceded in death by her parents (Leonora and Norman), sisters (Ruby and Berta), Brothers (Alfonso and Francisco), and nephews (Guillermo, Alfonsito, Alberto and John).
