My beloved mother, Hortensia Cao, passed away peacefully in the early hours of August 14, 2025, at age 96. Nearly the youngest of 11 siblings, she was born in Spain and later migrated to Cuba following her marriage to my father. Known for her calm demeanor and sweet personality, she was an expert seamstress and wonderful cook.
After leaving Cuba in 1966, they both settled in Miami where she joined the clothing manufacturing industry, first as a seamstress and later as supervisor in the manufacturing of high fashion, ladies apparel. She remained a widow after my father’s death in 1998.
She is survived by two sisters, her son Jose, three grandchildren and soon to be 7 great, great grandchildren. Her passing has left a huge void in the hearts of our family and of those who had the privilege of knowing her.
