

James was born on June 25, 1947 in Brooklyn, NY, to James and Irene Carr. He was the oldest of four children. He joined the United States Air Force in 1965 and began his tour as a flight engineer during the Vietnam War. He completed his tour at Patrick Air Force Base where he provided manned space flight support for the Apollo Operations Control Center until being honorably discharged in 1969. Jimmy became a Florida Highway Patrol Officer in 1977 where he was assigned to Troop E, Miami, Florida. He worked as a traffic homicide investigator for FHP from 1980-1989. He was assigned to the Presidential and Vice-Presidential protection details for Ronald Reagan and George Bush from 1984-1988. He also participated in the protection detail for Pope John Paul II under the direction of the Secret Service. In 1989, he began work as a criminal investigator for the State Attorney’s Office where he also served as Administrative Officer until his retirement.
James was known for his dry wit and sense of humor. He loved to share his life experiences in the form of a good story. He will be dearly missed by his friends and family.
James is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Heather (Carr) and Matt Rehrer; grandchildren, Jake (Kelsie) Rehrer, Jesse Rehrer, and Emily Rehrer; sisters, Patricia Singley and Jane Carr; and his partner, Louise McMurray and her children, Sean McMurray and Janet McMurray. He was predeceased by son James Joseph Carr.
