Jose was born in Santiago de Cuba, Cuba to parents Jose Antonio Domingo and Emilia Guillame. He grew up in Santiago and graduated from La Salle. Jose went on to graduate from the University of Havana Medical School in 1952. Upon graduation he returned to Santiago to practice at the Sacred Heart Clinic and also in his own private practice. He specialized in Radiology and Oncology in Cuba.
He married Enriqueta del Canal in 1960 and had one daughter, Lourdes Maria. Jose emigrated to the United States with his family in 1967, where they initially settled in St. Louis, Missouri. In Saint Louis Jose performed a residency in Psychiatry and later practiced general psychiatry and addiction recovery. Jose was licensed to practice medicine in Missouri, Texas and Florida.
Jose relocated with his family to Palm Beach County, Florida in 1974. He lent his talents to several hospitals in Palm Beach County: Saint Mary's Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital, and Lake Hospital. He also maintained his private practice, where he continued to help countless patients until his retirement in 1999. Jose and Enriqueta retired to Boca Raton, Florida.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Enriqueta, his daughter Lourdes Domingo Johnson and her husband Kirk Johnson; his two grandchildren Nicholas Johnson and Lauren Johnson Rivera and her husband Adam Rivera. He is also survived by his brother and sister who reside in Santiago de Cuba: Ariel Domingo and Ada Domingo.
Jose was called Pepe by those he was closest to. He enjoyed traveling with family and friends, socializing with his close circle of friends, listening to music and reading (and eating desserts!). He gave his family a lifetime of joyous memories, and they will forever cherish his generousity, love and devotion to them.
Jose passed away peacefully at home in Boca Raton surrounded by his family.
