1930 – 2024
On 1st September, 2024, the indomitable Dolores Miro – lovingly known to many as Tati-Cami-Titi-Loly departed this life in peace and comfort to be with her Heavenly Father after 94 years of life.
Born to Miguel Salazar and Maria Dolores on July 9th, 1930, in Havana, Cuba, Dolores was raised in a household of thirteen children, which shaped her deep love and respect for family. After studying at the local high school, Dolores worked at La Clinica de Lourdes, a Havana hospital.
On February 12th, 1954, she married Pablo Miro and they had a son, Paul, and a daughter, Lourdes, in Cuba. In 1960, Dolores bravely sent her son to the United States with his aunt before joining him months later with her daughter. Her husband Pablo was detained by the Cuban Communist Party and not allowed to join his family. After much assistance from friends and relatives in Cuba and American neighbors who helped write letters to the U.S government, Pablo was released in 1962 and reunited with Dolores and their children in Jacksonville, Florida. Five years later the couple welcomed their third child, Susan.
Dolores spent 30 years working for the King Edward Cigar Company, retiring in 1994 with a move to Miami. In 2001, her husband of 47 years passed away. Thirteen years later, Dolores married Juan Miranda. The couple was very involved in their local senior citizen club and volunteered their time in service to others. In 2021, Dolores and Juan moved to Jacksonville, where she would spend the remaining years of her life.
A woman of profound faith, Dolores was courageous, strong-willed, faithful, and had a great sense of humor. She had a fiery wit and always spoke from her heart. She walked through life with her head held high and was forever grateful to her Lord for the life she was given. She loved singing Celia Cruz, particularly La Vida Es Su Carnival, a stark reminder to be joyful and happy, even in the face of hardship.
Dolores was infinitely proud of her children and always challenged them to reach their full potential. She sacrificed everything so her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren would know a life of freedom and prosperity. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her unspeakable joy and pride. Her life was fruitful and full, and she will be greatly missed.
Dolores is preceded in death by her first and second husbands, Pablo Miro and Juan Miranda. She is survived by her loving children, Paul Miro, wife Leslie; Lourdes Tirado; Susan Miro, husband Tom. Dolores relished her role as Abuela to her grandchildren: Amanda Bishop, husband Chad; Frances Rollins, husband Robbie; Matthew Miro; Vanessa Tirado, husband Luis; Alexander Tirado; Rachel Santa Cruz, husband Sam; Thomas and Tristan Neubert. Tati was overjoyed to be the great-grandmother of Audrey and Christian Rollins; Bowen, Bryce and Blake Bishop, and Elyse and Dominic Ruiz.
