Miguel Luis del Portillo, Jr., age 63, of Miami, Florida, entered eternal life on September 27, 2025.
Migue was born on September 20, 1962 in Miami, Florida, to Miguel Luis del Portillo and Concepcion “Cobo” Chignoli. He grew up in Miami and he also lived a short time in Wisconsin, New York, and Texas. He attended St. Theresa, Belen and La Salle schools. He was passionate about God, family, friends, politics, music, history and fast cars. He loved his country and served in the U.S. Army 1982 and was stationed in Beirut. He most recently worked with the Veteran’s Administration. He became a member of the Republican Executive Committee in 2024. He had a big heart, loved unconditionally and made a friend of everyone he met.
Migue is survived by his mother Concepcion Cobo Chignoli; his stepmother, Mary del Portillo; his brother, Carlos Miguel; his sister, Beatrix del Portillo Smith; his brother-in-law Richard Smith; his nieces Krysta and Julia Smith; his nephew Ryan Smith, his grandnephew, Silas; his aunt and godmother, Zonia del Portillo, his aunts Olga Sheldon, Maria de la Portilla and Virginia Werda; and his uncles, Raul del Portillo and John Sheldon.
He was survived by numerous cousins who played an important role in his life and whom he loved dearly; by his best friend, Octavio Solis; his beloved girlfriend, Deborah Gersey; and many good and loyal friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Miguel Luis del Portillo; stepfather, William Chignoli; his aunt, Martha del Portillo Tamargo and his uncles Jorge Tamargo and Alonso del Portillo.
His funeral mass will be held on October 25, 2025 at 2:00 pm, at St. Michael the Archangel Church (in the Chapel) located at 2987 West Flagler Street, Miami, Florida, 33135 and will be immediately followed by a Graveside Service with the Rite of Committal and Military Honors at Caballero Rivero Woodlawn Park North, located at 3260 SW 8 Street, Miami, FL, 33135.
The family would like to thank the Veteran’s Administration, Dr. Spector, his staff, the VA Hospital doctors, nurses and employees, for all of their support and care of Migue, and especially to Ernestine, who went out of her way to assist and care for Migue. Also, his landlord, Fernando, who became his friend.
Migue cared deeply for St. Jude Children’s Hospital, The American Legion and veteran organizations.
Migue will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. May God welcome him into Heaven where he will be surrounded by love and light for all eternity. We love you Migue.
