Milka Brown, 82, returned to her heavenly home on September 20, 2016 after a valiant battle with familial amyloid cardiopathy. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace.
Milka was born to the late Tomas Alier Ramirez and Virginia Velasquez in Ponce, Puerto Rico on October 7, 1933. She was a devoted Roman Catholic that would be her lifelong support from an early age.
Milka was blessed with a loving family. She married, William Brown-Martinez, on July 2, 1960 in New York, NY. There was no greater love than those of their 56 years of marriage. Milka raised her three daughters with patience, discipline and humility. She taught them the importance of honesty, respect, faith and family. From the beginning, she adapted to the “Army life” and always dedicated herself to her children and husband. She encouraged them to explore and have “faith” and always instilled their Puerto Rican heritage no matter where they lived. Her love for sports began watching and supporting her husband on the baseball diamond, followed by her daughters’ interests and participation on the field or court - basketball, soccer, softball and volleyball. There was no greater pride than her family.
Milka was kind and soft-spoken, and always had time to listen to her family and friends when they needed an ear. She was the back bone of her family and several friends. She is dearly missed by her loved ones, who celebrate the fact that she is at peace with her creator.
Milka is survived by her husband, William; her daughters Denise (Stephen Vogt), Brenda and Melisa; her grandchildren Angela Boyd, Joseph Munster, Patricia Weber and Samuel Vogt; her great grandchildren Alexis Maria Boyd, Charles David Boyd, Wade Vogt, and Felix Henry Munster. She is preceded in death by her sister, Luz Selenia Cabrisas and her parents.
Milka will be buried at Woodlawn Park South Cemetery located 11655 SW 117 Avenue, Miami. FL, 33186. The viewing will be Thursday, September 22, 2016 at 6:30 PM – 10:30 PM at the Caballero Rivero Funeral Home located at Woodlawn Park Cemetery. The funeral mass will be held at Saint Louis Catholic Church located at 7270 SW 120 Street, Miami, FL 33156 on Friday, September 23, 2016 at 10:00 AM. The burial will be immediately following at Woodlawn Park Cemetery.
One of Milka’s special request that we wear various colors to her celebration of life. She did not want too much black and no red. However, she did want various colors, like a bouquet of flowers. If you cannot attend, the family requests that you consider to wear colorful colors on these two days of her Celebration of Life.
