She fled Cuba in 1966 with her husband, Jose Maria and two sons and settled in Wilmington, Delaware before retiring to Miami. She was a lover of opera, theatre, baseball, and an avid fan of Wheel of Fortune. She kept her mind sharp as she aged with a sudoku puzzle and pencil in hand. Her most important accomplishments were being Mami to Jose and Rafa, Noni to Auro, Madre to Damarys, Abuela to Javi, Eddie, and Cristy, Noni again to great-grandchildren Cami, Sofi, Caro, Amelie and Santi and beloved Tia Nora to many beloved nieces, nephews, and their children. Although always grateful to have immigrated to the United States, her only complaint was in her words “The Geography.” It pained her that the US was so big and her vast network of family and friends were spread out in the United States and abroad. This obstacle never stopped her from being the first person to gift her loved ones the blessing of presence to her beloved familia.
A big fan of the musical Evita, she often commented to family and friends, that when she passed to remember the famous song from the show, but instead sing, “Don’t Cry for Me Nora Rodriguez”. The tears of grief from family and friends are coupled with tears of joy and gratitude for having had the privilege of loving and being loved by this extraordinary individual.
In lieu of flowers we welcome donations to Catholic Hospice. They provided loving and professional care in her final years.
