Raquel was born on April 1, 1932, in Cuba, to Obdulia Ramona Josefa Martinez González, a native of León, Spain, and Alberto Meneses D’Harcourt, originally from Albacete, Spain. Her parents immigrated to Cuba with Raquel’s three older brothers in search of a better life and greater opportunities, bringing with them their Spanish heritage, enduring values, and deep Catholic faith.
The youngest of seven children, Raquel was the last surviving sibling — a cherished link to her family’s origins and history.
Independent in spirit and curious about the world, Raquel possessed a lifelong love of travel and connection.
That adventurous heart led her to Spain, where she reconnected with cousins and extended family, deepening the bonds to her parents’ homeland. She later made her home in the United States, carrying her culture, traditions, and steadfast faith wherever she went.
Raquel was a devoted Catholic who truly lived and walked in her faith. Her relationship with God guided every aspect of her life. She generously volunteered within her parish community and faithfully taught CCD classes, dedicating herself to nurturing the faith of younger generations. Although Raquel had no children of her own, she was a dearly devoted aunt, as all her nieces and nephews can attest to. She was a constant pillar of support in many of their lives and sought to dedicate herself to attending to any of the needs of her beloved nieces and nephew. She believed in service not as an obligation, but as a joyful expression of love.
She is survived by her many nieces, great-nieces, nephews, and great-nephews, in whose lives she held a special place and who are left with the many memories of her devotion, humor, independence, and above all, love of God. Her love and presence remain in our hearts.
Raquel will be remembered for her grace, quiet strength, warm smile, and unwavering devotion to both family and faith. While her earthly journey has ended, her legacy of love and belief lives on in all who were blessed to know her. Although her departure inevitably brings grief to all of us here who loved her, it is also a source of consolation. A consolation knowing that, although she has left us, she has gone on to meet again with her sisters, with whom she was so close to in this life, as well as her brothers and of course, her parents whom she loved so dearly, finally reunited in Heaven as they were here on Earth.
A private service will be held in celebration of her life.
