Roberto Torres Ponce

Roberto was born in Mayaguez, PR to Modesto Torres and Ana Ponce. He grew up in Las Marias, PR before moving to Newark, NJ in 1984 and settled in Homestead, FL 6 years ago. He worked various jobs before he found his passion in real estate. Roberto loved being outdoors, always looking to go on hikes and exploring nature. He was also a great cook; making a delicious meal for others brought him joy. He enjoyed most spending time with his family. He will always be remembered for making those around him smile and bringing them laughter. Gordo’s favorite saying was, “It is not only to live, it is knowing how to live.”

The beloved husband to Marcela Gomez, Roberto is survived by his mother, Ana Ponce (Balmore); his daughter, Joana Ramirez (Alvaro Castillo); his siblings, Manuel M. Torres, Joselito Torres and Ana Torres-Droz; his grandson, Liam Castillo; his mother-in-law, Maria Beltran and his nieces and nephew, Tatiana, Manuel, Diana, and Briani Torres.

A visitation will be on Sunday, February 20, 2022 from 4-11 p.m. at Caballero Rivero Woodlawn South & Woodlawn Park Cemetery South, 11655 SW 117th Ave, Miami, FL 33186. A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 21, 2022 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with interment to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Roberto’s name to Diabetes Research Institute Foundation, www.diabetesresearch.org

Roberto “Gordo” Torres-Ponce, de 45 años, de Homestead, FL falleció el sábado 29 de enero de 2022, rodeado de su amada familia.

Roberto nació en Mayagüez, PR, hijo de Modesto Torres y Ana Ponce, el se crio en Las Marías, PR antes de mudarse en Newark, NJ en 1984, entonces se mudó a Homestead, FL hace 6 años. Trabajó en varios trabajos antes de encontrar su pasión en los bienes raíces. A Roberto le encantaba estar al aire libre, siempre buscando hacer caminatas y explorar la naturaleza. También fue un gran cocinero; hacer una comida deliciosa para los demás le trajo alegría. Disfrutaba más pasar tiempo con su familia. Siempre será recordado por hacer sonreír a quienes lo rodean y provocarles risas. El dicho favorito de Gordo era: “No es solo vivir, es saber vivir”.

Roberto, el amado esposo de Marcela Gómez, deja a su madre, Ana Ponce (Balmore); su hija, Joana Ramírez (Álvaro Castillo); sus hermanos, Manuel M. Torres, Joselito Torres y Ana Torres-Droz; su nieto, Liam Castillo; su suegra, María Beltrán y sus sobrinas y sobrinos, Tatiana, Manuel, Diana y Briani Torres.

El velorio será el domingo 20 de febrero de 2022 de 4 p. m. a 11 p. m. en Caballero Rivero Woodlawn South & Woodlawn Park Cemetery South, 11655 SW 117th Ave, Miami, FL 33186. El funeral se llevará a cabo el lunes 21 de febrero de 2022 a las 10 a. m. en la funeraria y el entierro seguirá.
