

Shin was born in Yuanlin, Taiwan on February 2, 1968. She was the devoted daughter of Wen-Shih and Shiu-Lian Hwong.
After leaving Taiwan and growing up in Dominican Republic with her family, she came to the United States to attend the all-girls Bartram School in Jacksonville, Florida. Shin went on to attend Tulane University, in New Orleans, Louisiana, where she obtained her bachelor’s degree.
Shin joined her family in Miami and began her career in the insurance field. She enjoyed her work and made life-long friends at Union General and State Farm Insurance Company.
Shin was known for her outgoing nature, making friends in an instant. She loved photography, sports, beauty pageants, and making her beloved dishes at family gatherings.
Shin’s most important work was as a dedicated mother to Daniela M. Fernandez and
Eloy A. Fernandez IV. She attended countless dance competitions and sporting events, and proudly saw her children graduate college. She remained their best friend and confidant into their young adulthood.
Shin is survived by her parents, and her sister squad of, Chun-Wei Huang, Fong-Wei Fernandez, and Ying-Wei Huang. She was a loving aunt to Isabella V. Fernandez, Julian J. Fernandez, and Marco W. Grill. She was a wonderful sister-in-law to Jose I. Fernandez and Jeffrey S. Grill. Shin will be forever remembered as a dear friend to many.
Shin loved life and showed relentless courage throughout its course. She defied expectations and battled leukemia on her terms, teaching all of those around her how to live with grace, gratitude and determination. She was the first to ask any caregiver or fellow patient about their loved ones and how they were doing. Shin’s family will be forever grateful to the medical professionals that were a part of her journey.
A celebration mass will be held for Shin at Church of the Epiphany in Miami, Florida on Monday, July 8th, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. She will be laid to rest at Woodlawn Park South. At Shin’s request, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Marrow Donor Program in her honor. More information may be found here.
