Today I received a beautiful photo of my mom that was taken by a friend of hers from FIU several years back. His name is Ken Johnson, he is an amazing photographer and a good friend. He had given this photo to mom a while back but my sister wanted it after her passing so Ken graciously printed another one for me. I love this photo of her and wanted to share it with you. 



I just heard today about Mrs Browns passing.
I have known Mrs Brown More years then I can remember. What I do remember is how Growing up I considered her my second Mom. She bailed us out of trouble when we were kids. And Always had encouraging words as we grew Up. I feel so lucky that I got to Visit her just a couple years ago, when my family visited Miami.
Thank you for being part of my life. You will be missed.
My prayers go out to all of her children.

Maezel, thank you for all you brought to my life, your families lives, your friends and.church.  For over 25.years you encouraged me, supported me and loved me. We shared so much laughter. You will forever be in my heart.

What can you say about someone as fantastic as Maezel? She was one of a kind! She loved her family deeply and her friends as well.  She was fun to be around and with.  She was a special friend to me and I miss her already.

I didn't know Maezel Brown well but I witnessed  her kindness and enthusiasm in making the Mass more beautiful for everyone. She seemed to do things lovingly, but with much determination - and I trust that those qualities will be just as evident in heaven. My faith tells me she is at peace, but she may not be resting, she may very well be arranging flowers, arranging saints (not statues ) and interceding for her family and loved ones with  her characteristic love and determination. 

Writing in my prayer journal tonight and looked at my Grandma's prayer card from her funeral, and what picture is on the front? Infant of Prague! Thanks for checking in on me, Aunt Maezel! Something tells me I'll be hearing from you much more often now!

Dear Roxana: Today I receive the sad news of Maezel's death, but her faith is a comfort to me because I know it is taking  her to the Lord  whom she loved and served with such devotion. Accept my condolences for you and  your family. I have many fond memories from the years I have known Maezel and these will be cherished until we meet again. Aunt Maezel, I am going to miss you so much. You have been in my life from a young boy to adulthood. We have shared wonderful adventures, laughs and stories that I will cherish forever. Our family is with you in spirit today and tomorrow for the Celebration of Maezel's Life. 
So sorry to see her go but know she is in a better place with no suffering. She was one of a kind
with strength, love, laughter and witt.  Uncle Jim & I always enjoyed your family trips to Kansas City when you kids were little.

Maezel was such a wonderful friend and support.  She was a happy face you could count on, and a sympathetic ear when needed.  I have such fond memories of interactions with her while she worked for us at FIU, and later when she came to visit me in Wales.  We had such a ball exploring the mountains in Snowdonia, and laughing and sampling tea and scones in Beddgelert.  I feel blessed to have shared in at least a little of her life and to have been able to count her as a friend.  Rest in peace, my friend.  Love, Ginny

Maezel, you were one of the first people I met when we moved to Miami almost 26 years ago and Jamie started in the English department. Over the years we had such lovely times with you. I recall spending a Thanksgiving with your family at your beautiful home. I remember a Fourth of July there and a Valentine's Day party you hosted for the English faculty several years ago. And in between those special occasions, you repeatedly welcomed us warmly whenever we dropped by, unannounced, after our strawberry-picking stints at Knauss farm, the most recent time being this past December, when we caught up with you and your family. At one of your annual Christmas bazaars, I purchased a wreath you made. It makes me think of you whenever I see it, and now I will treasure it even more.  Thank you for all your many kindnesses. You will be missed.

Mazel, you were a hoot!! I could always count on you for a laugh. We spent many wonderful years in the antique stores, rearranging our found trash we turned into treasures. The best came when I came into the store and told you I finally found someone after being alone  for 9 years. His name is Michael Fiebeck, you started laughing and said go back and keep looking. We each have our unique memories of you, both me and Mike, you are a one of a kind. It’s not good bye, it’s we will see you again one day.

Maezel was one of the most talented persons that I ever met and loved to meet her for breakfast, and just talk about everything - from our love of our Catholic faith to cooking to flowers to antiques.  There was always something to discuss and share.  Her dedication to the Latin Liturgy, the beautiful floral arrangements, the delicious breakfast plates for the Coffee Club, her generosity for all the causes, I can go on and on.  The beautiful Infants of Prague that she would repair! Until we meet again, pray for me!  Will miss you more than I can put into words.  With all my heart, God bless you.xxx

Aunt Maezel~you were an incredibly strong woman, a force to be reckoned with, and a role model for your daughters, granddaughters, and nieces.  When you saw injustice, you spoke out. You had strong opinions and never hesitated to share them.  Your sense of humor was one of your best assets. Visiting with you made my heart happy!  I love you and will miss you dearly!

I have so many memories of Aunt Maezel, from Childhood events to Florida visits. She was always incredibly warm and welcoming, loved to take visitors to see the sights, and charmed me with her fiery wit and strong conviction  in her faith. She is an example to me of how to treat the visitor and weary traveler! Brown family - may you be at peace, knowing you had an awesome mom!

My memory of Aunt Maezel was that of a fun loving, crazy, energetic women with a big heart.  Rest in peace. 

I’ve known Maezie since our kids were in high school.  She volunteered for the SW High School sports program and we volunteered fir the band’s program.  She had such energy and selflessness for everyone around her.  While at FIU she was a guiding light for students, her faculty, and staff.  She, along with the deans and chairpersons, were able to move me into her position when she retired and for that I was eternally grateful.  My last few years at FIU were wonderful thanks to her part in the move.  She was quite the lady!!  Now she’s walking with her Lord Jesus and her life is full!!

I met Maezel in 2003 and worked with her until her retirement.  As the office manager of the Department of English, the office reflected who she was, helpful to all but especially to the students who needed someone to listen to them and provide answers to their questions. 

To those who worked with her daily, she made coming to the office something to look forward to.  We enjoyed our jobs and the people we worked with but that atmosphere of conviviality was Maezel’s doing.  There was never a birthday or an important event in the department which wasn’t celebrated.  Maezel celebrated everything including Halloween (mandatory costumes and treats) and, of course, the unforgettable annual Christmas parties.  It was all such fun.  I’m glad I have those memories of her.  

Maezel, I miss you already. Working with you was a rewarding, fun, and exciting experience because you taught me to always do my best and to enjoy life at the same time. I will never forget our many years together. Your faith carried you through life's difficult moments, so now let it be your source of peace. Gooodbye my friend, and God bless you and your lovely family.

Thank you Miss Maezel for being a loyal friend to my Mother, for entering a room with your laugh, for sharing your opinion even when it wasn't popular, for your example of being true to who you are always. You will be missed 💗

Maezey was a great friend of my mom’s and her son is a great friend of mine. She was quick witted, brutally honest, and loved much by her family and numerous friends. She will be missed. RIP, Mrs. Brown...
