

Age 75 of Dayton, Ohio passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 6, 2016. He was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on July 31, 1940 to the late, John and Lillian (Cosentino) Maletta. Also preceding him in death is his beloved grandson, Zachary Bustillo (2015). John is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Beverly (Cannon) Maletta; daughters, Cheryl (Hal) Trujillo, Donna Maletta, Lauren (John) Miller; grandchildren, J.C., Molly, Graham, Madison; great granddaughter, Adele; siblings, Joe Maletta, Paul (Paula) Maletta, Rita (Sonny) Robak and numerous family and friends. John worked at IBM for 30 years while also serving as an athletic trainer and school board member for Miamisburg. After retiring from IBM, John became a certified athletic trainer working for Kettering Sports Medicine with the Dunbar High School basketball team where he proudly celebrated 2 state championships in a row. John also served on the Ohio State School Board, was a member of the Sports Medicine Association and was a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus with St. Henry’s Catholic Church. John loved life, being with people, but family was always most important. He never met a stranger and will be missed by all that knew him. Friends and family may visit from 2-3PM on Sunday, January 10 at St. Henry Catholic Church, 6696 Springboro Pike Dayton, Ohio 45449, followed by a memorial mass at 3 PM, with Fr. Tom Schearer celebrant. John requests that everyone come dressed casually in jeans and in New England Patriots or the Boston Red Sox attire or the appropriate colors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude’s Children Hospital, in memory of John.
