

PATTERSON, Karlos Lee, age 73 of Miamisburg, passed away Friday, August 19, 2016 at his residence surrounded by family and in the care of Hospice of Dayton. He was born September 30, 1942 in Hammond, IN to the late Harold M. and Dorothy Frances (Dickinson) Patterson. In addition to his parents, Karlos was preceded in death by an infant grandson, Riley in 2005. He is survived by his loving wife, Pamela (Orchard) Patterson; supportive sons, Christopher Patterson of St. Clair, MI and Michael (Becca) Patterson of Katy, TX; adoring grandchildren, Avery, Reade, Jackson and Polly; brothers twin Paul (Phyllis) Patterson of Mooresville, IN and H. Steven (Marcia) Patterson of Lakewood, CO and a number of very close friends. Karlos graduated from Hammond Morton High School in 1960, received his Bachelor’s degree in Education from Hanover College in 1964, and received a Master’s in Education from the University of Denver in 1968. Karlos devoted his career to the education and development of youth serving as a high school science teacher and a coach of multiple sports. Karlos began his teaching and coaching career at La Junta HS in La Junta, Colorado. From there he moved on to Hoxie HS in Hoxie, Kansas and then to Amelia HS in Amelia, Ohio where he served as the head coach for baseball, basketball, and cross country. Karlos was named the Miamisburg HS head baseball coach in 1988 after joining the coaching staff as an assistant in 1979. He is the school’s winningest and longest serving head baseball coach. His teams regularly competed for league, district, and regional championships. In 1991 Karlos was named Miami Valley Baseball Coaches Association (MVBCA) Coach of the Year and was inducted into the MVBCA Hall of Fame in 1997. Karlos retired from Miamisburg City Schools in 2002. Karlos enjoyed his retirement, choosing to spend his time golfing, travelling, and visiting with family and friends. Family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday, September 8, 2016 at Gebhart-Schmidt-Parramore Funeral Home, Miamisburg.
