Mila Jean Gilkerson Newland

NEWLAND, Mila Jean, age 84 of Miamisburg, passed away Thursday, July 13, 2017 in Waynesville, OH. She was born May 10, 1933 in Miamisburg to the late Milo S. and Christine A. (Brough) Gilkerson. In addition to her parents, Mila Jean was preceded in death by her husband of almost 60 years, Jeem E. “Moose” Newland in 2011 and sons, Jeem II and Rick Newland. Mila Jean is survived by her children, Rodney Newland of Swanton, OH, Jina Marie (Michael) O’Shaughnessy of Miamisburg and Julie Christine (Michael) Bolton of Waynesville; daughter-in-law, Linda Newland; grandchildren, Justin, Ian, Corey, Michael, Jeem III, Lindsey, Kristy and Shuan; many great grandchildren; special pet and long-time companion, Chihuahua, Candy and the many caregivers who helped her on her journey including, Markeisia, Gideon and Ginny. Mila Jean was a 1951 graduate of Miamisburg High School and devoted herself to her family as a wife, mother and homemaker. She was a 40–year member of the Our Lady of Good Hope parish and enjoyed quilting, sewing, crafting, shopping and eating out. A special thanks for the care and compassion of Heartland Hospice and Dr. David Page during Mila Jean’s final months. Family will receive guests from 10:00am – 12:00pm at Gebhart-Schmidt-Parramore Funeral Home, Miamisburg on Tuesday, July 18, 2017. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:30 pm Tuesday at Our Lady of Good Hope Church, Miamisburg. Entombment will be performed at Miami Valley Memory Garden mausoleum, Centerville.
