Perry graduated from Jefferson High School in 1947 and then worked at McCall magazine. In 1950, he enlisted in the army and felt honored to serve his country.
He met the love of his life, Mary, around the same time, so the two were married before he shipped out to Okinawa during the Korean War. Returning to civilian life two years later, he began a career at the Dayton Daily News.
Known by many as "Mr. Fix-it," Perry was able to fix about anything and was quick to offer to help others with various projects. He eventually put those skills to use for the customers of Star City Hardware, doing what he loved until he retired.
He enjoyed music, dancing, telling stories, and walking - always walking. Even until recently, he saw many familiar faces on his frequent walks in Miamisburg. His hearty appetite and great metabolism were the envy of a lot of his friends!
Perry will be deeply missed by his three children, Michael, Cynthia (Rex) and Teresa, along with nieces, nephews, and many dear friends, some of whose treasured friendships spanned most of his adult life. He is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Mary L., and his two sisters, Norma Cook and Lois Whiddon.
A memorial service will be held at Gebhart-Schmidt-Parramore Funeral Home on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. for visiting family and friends, and a short service at 2 p.m.
