

KORN, Robert L. “Bobby,” age 83, a resident of Miamisburg passed away peacefully at his home on February 3, 2011. He was born on October 22, 1927 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Harold “Red” and May (Getter) Korn. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife Rose McKinney Korn. Bobby is survived by his daughter, Robin Korn; grandchildren: Bobby Korn, Jessica Korn and Gary Korn; sisters: Wanda (Dick) Hamlin and Nancy (Banner) Eastridge; 1 niece and 2 nephews; beloved friends: Dorothy Miller, Mike Thompson and Jr. Guthrie, along with everyone from Happy Days Restaurant. Bobby served his country in the United States Army as a Motor Sergeant during the Korean War. He was a life member of the Wolf Creek Gun Club, the VFW Post 3438 and the Franklin American Legion Post 149; he served as Past Commander of the Miamisburg American Legion Post 165. His love of mechanics started at a young age, working on cars with his father. He was an award winning mechanic working the majority of his life at Bob’s Transmission Service. Bobby’s accomplishments in the automotive industry are: Member of (DARF) Dayton Auto Racing Fan Club, he was inducted into the Inaugural Dayton Speedway Hall of Fame in 2009, 4 time NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Regional Mechanic of the year, NASCAR National Short Track Weekly Racing Series Craftsman Mechanic of the Year 2002, Dayton Auto Racing Fan Club (DARF) Mechanic of the Year 2003, received the Dick Freeman Memorial Award in 1982 from DARF, he won hundreds of races and numerous track championships with many of the best drivers involved in Auto Racing, his cars won 40 features 1958 and 34 features 1959. Bobby was a mechanic and car owner/builder for 70 years and participated in the Inaugural 1959 Daytona 500. Friends may call on Friday, February 11, 2011 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at GEBHART-SCHMIDT-PARRAMORE FUNERAL HOME, Miamisburg with Funeral Services beginning at 1:00p.m. officiated by Pastor James Maggard. Burial will take place at Ellerton Cemetery along with military honors.
