

Barbara, a resident of Middleburg Heights, Ohio, was the beloved wife of George (deceased); loving mother to Mark, Lauren Smith (Ken), and Craig (Beverly); cherished grandmother to Kim Feckley, Christopher Reinbrecht, Elizabeth Sewell (Jesse), and Keith Smith (deceased); devoted great-grandmother to Brayden Feckley, William Sewell, and Charlotte Sewell; dear sister to Joseph Belt and Susan Batteen (both deceased) and brother James Belt who survives her.
Barbara was born in Marshall, Missouri and was raised in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. She moved to the Cleveland area after marrying George and they lived most of their lives in Middleburg Heights. She spent the last seven years of her life at the Renaissance Campus in Olmsted Falls where she had an active social life with many new friends.
She was very active in her community and supported all the activities and organizations her children were involved in. Barbara was a willing volunteer in the Middleburg Heights Community Church, serving in many positions there, including as deaconess and Vacation Bible School Coordinator. She mentored an early elementary student in Parma for 17 years and her family hosted an AFS student from Japan for a year.
Barbara retired from Glidden Durkee Research Center in 1997 as Supervisor of Purchasing and Office Services, having worked in a number of positions over her many years there.
Barbara enjoyed being with her family most of all and celebrated the many family occasions and holidays with them, most often in her home. She was an active bridge player for many years, belonging to a variety of clubs and organizations and, with George, traveled extensively in the U.S. and Europe. She had a very close group of friends who spent every fall at Honey Run in Amish Country, enjoying attending plays and concerts and weekend outings together.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 11:00 am on Saturday, November 8, 2025 preceded by visitation at 10:00 am. It will be held at the Middleburg Heights Community Church, 7165 Big Creek Parkway, Middleburg Heights, OH, 44130. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Hospice of the Western Reserve or the Renaissance Retirement Campus (Olmsted Falls, OH).
