I made candy at the Middleburg plant and made the deliveries to the stores from Kammâ€™s to Willowick to Great Northern.  I helped him at his home.  Rita and he were a generous couple who would help me out.  I was extended family to them.  Even offered me to come at Thanksgiving so I always had a place to go.  I decided to Google him and this is how I learned the outcome.  He had a great family at the plant when I worked there during the â€˜90s.  Sheila, Melba, Mary, Dawn, Ricardo, canâ€™t remember the secretaryâ€™s name (ugh) the lady who also worked at the zoo,  I donâ€™t remember everyone anymore ðŸ˜. RIP Mr. and Mrs.  Faroh

I send you my sincere condolences and prayer for your Dad and Grandpa. Tom,one of my good memories of our time working and laughing together at Villa Angela is you praise of your Dad. I knew you were genuinely good because of your love for your parents and family. Your Dad modeled good business practices and you emulated him. You will certainly grieve this loss for a long time to come.

I did not know Mr. Faroh, but I knew his stores and his chocolates, which were a part of our Easter celebrations for years. When I moved out of state, my mother would still mail me a French chocolate egg, so that I could have a taste of home. It meant the world to me. So thank you, Mom, and thank you, Mr. Faroh. You built quite a legacy. My sincere condolences to his family.Â 

The business friendship between my father, Tony Thomas, and George Faroh, defined our lives for many years. My parents ran the only "Faroh's Candies" store in Kamm's Plaza (Kathy's Kandy Kitchen) that was not owned by George, and that association lasted until my father retired in the late 70's.Â Â 

There is a wonderful story behind their friendship. In the 1950's, my dad owned a bar in Kamm's Corners. He was always taking calls from wives who were looking for their husbands, because they stayed too long at the bar after work. My parents were regular customers of Faroh's, and George and my father decided to try something in the bar. They agreed that my father could put a small display of Faroh's boxed candies in the corner, near the exit. When bar patrons stayed too late, my father convinced to buy a box of candy for their wives to "soften" the blow when they got home. It became so popular at holidays, that George and Dad agreed to a "franchise" and my parents opened their store, selling Faroh's Finest in Kamm's Plaza.Â  That arrangement lasted for over two decades, and my family's memories remain as sweet as the wonderful candy that George and his company produced. Our prayers are with his family for their loss, but we also share the joy of our memories.
