On a visit to the UK Rick once called British sandwiches ranch sandwiches because he said it was two pieces of bread and a wide open space in between. His humour will be missed.

What a wonderful human being Rick was we met through work some  27 years ago .. I loved his sense of humour and his honestyâ€¦ a work colleague that became a friend for life â€¦ his love for wine , golfing , gardening .. how much garlic or potatoes  I loved the pictures â€¦ love for his family that he always talked about the world is a sadder place without Rick â€¦ RIP my friend always remembered .. love and hugs to all the family and the freight family. Xxx

Rick Gareau was a great International Freight Forwarder, Business Owner, and Family Man.  As a fellow early North Olmsted friend of the Gareau Family at St. Richard's Parish (Marc Gareau), I enjoyed  also knowing Rick's family. Rick was one of those special people we have the privilege to meet and to call our friend.  When asked how he was doing, Rick always responded:  "if I were any better, I couldn't stand it".  He would always light up the room.  Rest in peace our deer friend.

Rick and his company, Midwest Transatlantic Lines, joined United Shipping, our international association of shipping agents, 34 years ago and shortly after our founding.  Rickâ€™s company quickly became one of our most successful partners winning numerous awards, including Partner of the Year, multiple times.  Rick travelled the world extensively, benefiting both his own company and United Shipping.
Rick happily served in many capacities and for many years, including as a member of the Board of Directors and as Treasurer.  He participated in all of our international and domestic meetings and whenever and wherever he was called.  His participation and advice was influential and substantial in the growth and success of United Shipping.
Over the years Rickâ€™s humor, understanding and sharing of his love for life created many friendships around the globe.   Rick was one of the kindest and most generous individuals and fortunate are those of us who worked, travelled and enjoyed life with him.   Rick treasured his family, truly enjoyed being with people, golfing and fine food and wine.  We are better for having shared this life with Rick.
