During his military service, Richard proudly served in the Navy during World War II from 1942 to 1945. His contributions and sacrifices during this time were commendable. Dick began his career as a patrol officer on a "paddy wagon" on the west side of Cleveland. He had countless stories from his experiences, but it deeply troubled him when cases involved children, especially girls, as he was a father of four. He advanced to become a Cleveland SIU Detective. He had the honor of escorting Dorothy Fuldheim and spoke highly of her intelligence and wonderful nature. Outside of his professional life, Richard had a passion for swimming, fishing, camping on Marblehead & Sanibel Island and basking in the sun. He had a knack for card games like Cribbage and Pinochle, and he took great pride in keeping an accurate count during play. If you made a mistake, he wouldn't hesitate to call you out and question your decision. He had a fondness for bringing home female dogs, which often resulted in a household filled with adorable puppies, much to the dismay of his wife. Richard found solace in his faith and was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church in N Ft Myers, Florida. It was a source of comfort and strength for him.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a funeral Mass at 10 am at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, located at 929 Pearl Road, Brunswick, Ohio, on September 29, 2023. Where family will receive friends 9:30 am until time of Mass.
