Dear Anna, 

with deep sorrow and consternation we heard the message of Bob's death. We would like to say to you, as much we with you and the whole family Collins feel.

With the death of humans one loses much - however never, the time spent with it. He had a long and fulfilled life, that may little comfort be, but does not replace him.

We were allowed to spend many beautiful and cheerful hours with one another. Particularly too our wedding in 1995. Remain unforgotten being humor and its generosity, in addition, its impatience, if it concerned to find on the German television a channel with news of the day or messages from golf courses all over the world.

We wish you and your family of whole heart, that you have the needed power to look despite the loss and not hopelessly into the future.

We will always keep Bob in affectionate memory.

A trubute to our Dad:

Allow me this morning to briefly touch upon the life of a great man, father, friend, and husband. 

Our father was a man of tremendous faith; a man that had Jesus Christ as the focal point in all aspects of his life.

He had a great devotion to St. Jude and relied many times upon this great saint for an answer to his problems. For a very long time I could never understand why he trusted so faithfully in the patron saint of lost causes when everything he attempted always seemed to work out for the best. Trust in St. Jude, he would say, he will never let you down.

He loved the Blessed Mother and had a great devotion to the rosary. He was never far from his rosary; it was always in his pocket.

Dad was always a part of the church and the parish family. 
As far back as I can remember dad ushered at Sunday mass. 

He was a member of the Holy Name Society here at St. Bartholomew.

He was a lecturer and a Eucharistic minister.

With a group of friends he helped form The Sunshine Boys, a group of retired men who volunteer to serve the parish funeral masses.

He was a participant and had an active role in the parish’s golf league.

He spent time with the youth of the parish taking the boys and girls on many Alter Server Picnics. He coached athletics and taught religion in the parish PSR classes.

Dad was involved in the fundraising effort and social events at the parish. Whether it was a Building Fund, the 250 Club Athletic Boosters, Catholic Charities, Parish Festival, Silent Bazaars, a Spaghetti Dinner, the Men’s Steak Roast, or even a Clam Bake he just wanted to be a part of the action.

Parish Life was important for him. It was a way to give back and thank the Good Lord for his many blessings. Charity and the need to help others was always his motive.

The parish was only a starting point in his service to others. Dad gave his time freely to other catholic and public service organizations too. He never joined just to be a part of an organization. He took an active role taking a part when ever needed.

He was a member and Past President of the Order of Elks in Venice, Florida and a member and Past President of the Middleburg Heights Lions Club. 

He was an Honorary Life Member of the Knight of Columbus at the St. Therese Council #7904 in Moorestown, North Carolina and a 4th Degree Sir Knight of the Bishop O’ Reilly Assembly here in the western suburbs of Cleveland.

Dad was a truly a man for others, willing to give to others and offer his time and talents wherever needed. 

I can not begin to imagine how may hours he gave or how many children sat upon his lap during the Christmas Season for so many years when he put on the red suit and the white beard.

He had a strong work ethic and was self motivated. He set lofty goals for himself and then laid out the plan to conquer them. He was a firm believer of getting up early each morning, going to work every day and giving it 100%. He clearly showed us through his example that success is never guaranteed unless it is earned.

Dad gave us our faith. He insisted on a catholic education. Classes at the local public schools were not an option. He had provided us with 98 years of catholic education. All eight of children here today are graduates of St. Bartholomew School. We first attended classes here in 1959 and attend through 1984.

He was a man of few words. He was not one to preach or lecture us. You knew exactly what he meant and where he stood the first time he told you. You and need not be reminded or told again.

Dad was a family man, father and husband; he always gave us his best.
Sundays were usually a day with the family and times to visit with others or get together with relatives.

Most times we would go to mass together and never had a problem filling a pew from one end to the other.

Dad loved to celebrate and have a good time. Family events; picnics, holidays, Chicken BBQs, birthdays, Communions, Confirmations, graduations, weddings, anniversaries, and vacations; he wanted to make everything special with family and friends; everyone was included and invited.

Even with such a full life and a busy schedule he was always able to take the time for what we as children thought to be most important in our lives.

How many countless hours do you think he spent sitting in an auditorium or on a bleacher seat attending one of our scholastic extracurricular events at which we were or were not an active participant.

Through his lifetime of example, today, he lives on in each and every one of us.

There is no doubt that we will miss him dearly. One can not dismiss or discount anyone who has been so much a part of your life.

It is only in the faith that he gave us that we may be satisfied in his death. Knowing what we have learned as Catholics and what we believe in about our lives after death; if we had him back here this very minute what could we give him; what could we possibly give him that he is not already getting from our Savor Jesus Christ.

Thanks for being patient with me. I hope I have not gone on to long. But today three ingredients all have seemed to come together, a microphone, a captive audience, and a great subject to speak about.

As read at Dad's Funeral Mass July 7, 2010

It was earlier this year that Bobby and I were golfing (Mooresville Senior League) and talking about the Browns chances this year ... as well as dreaming about the Indians winning the Central Division. At that time, Bob was complaining about a sore back, and let it be known that one never knows what may keep you from your goals. It wasn't long after that that he let us all know of his diagnosis, but I believe he knew before that. Bobby's knowledge of life's pitfalls, his faith in God's will, love of family and realistic (sometimes stubborn) outlook -- somehow gave him the inner peace to accept this stage of eternity. He will be missed by his Mooresville NC friends. God gave us memories, so that we may have roses in December. We will remember Bobby C. Perhaps now, from his vantage point, he can get those Browns and Indians off center.
