William J. Docherty Jr., age 78. Beloved husband of Judy for 58 years; devoted father of Laura Asher (John) and Brian (Karen); devoted grandfather of Lindsay and William Asher, and Natalie and Dylan Docherty; dear brother of Dennis (deceased)(Vienna), Thomas (Jane)(both deceased), Margaret Norris (James), Donna (deceased), and John "Jack"; also survived by nieces, nephews and friends. U.S. Navy Veteran.
William James Docherty, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. The last two years of Bill’s life was spent bravely battling his illnesses, replying, "Hanging in there," when asked how he was doing.
Bill attended E.E. Root High School in North Royalton and then attended Tri-C Junior college where he met his wife, Judy. They lovingly disagreed for fifty-eight years of marriage, who asked who out on a date first. Bill enlisted in the Navy for four years and brought his little family back to Cleveland, Ohio. Once back in Cleveland, he began working at MTD Products, starting on the paint line. His tremendous determination and strong work ethic led him to achieve the position of President of Independent Retail Division and to serve as a member of the Board of Directors. Always humble, he would just say he "worked in sales."
Bill’s greatest achievement, however, was his family that he guided with wisdom and a steady hand as he did in everything else. There seemed to be no problem he couldn't solve. His joy came from ensuring everyone was cared for and happy. He lived a life built on strength, generosity, and a deep care for those he loved most.
Bill was not a fisherman, but he spent many hours baiting bread balls and worms on hooks, playing checkers, and swinging on the porch with his grandchildren. He loved attending their sporting events, recitals, and school events, always extremely proud of their accomplishments.
Bill and Judy were blessed to be able to spend time in Florida at Spring Run, where they enjoyed many happy years of golfing, watching sunsets, and laughing with their wonderful friends. They took pleasure in the simple moments that made life rich.
Those who knew Bill, will remember his strength, generosity, and the way he made everyone feel valued. His presence brought comfort and stability. His absence leaves a space that cannot be filled. Though he will be deeply missed, his love and example will continue to guide his family forever. He will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
2 Timothy 4:7 “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
