Roger graduated from Hamilton High School in 1954 where he excelled at baseball. Roger spent many summers playing Knothole Baseball in Hamilton’s North End. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1962. He had many stories of his adventures and experiences in the ports in Japan, South America and North America.
Roger married his childhood friend, Winifred Shilt, in 1961. Roger joined the Middletown Fire Department in 1965 and served as a Fire-Medic for 25 years. After retiring in 1990, he spent time relaxing, playing his cornet and trumpet, taking long walks with his furry friends, and reading history-based publications. He was always interested in his Scottish family heritage. He loved the outdoors and fishing and spent many hours teaching his children the fundamentals of many sports. From an early age, he was a Cincinnati Reds fan and followed the games often on WLW-700. In his later years, he enjoyed dancing and attending live music events with his dear friend Marianne Chrisman. He was able to enjoy his last year of life at Ohio Living Mount Pleasant.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Brianna Smith, brother (Dale Campbell), and wife (Winifred “Shilt” Campbell).
Roger is survived by his two children, Kevin Campbell (wife Karen Campbell) of Monroe, OH, and Sharon Smith (husband Brian Smith), grandson Camden Smith of Modesto, CA, sister, Ellen Campbell of Hamilton, OH, and several nieces and a nephew.
