She was a lifelong Christian and a beloved member of her Presbyterian church choir and handbell ensemble, affectionately known as the "Ding-a-lings!" Shirley spent her career as an elementary teacher with the Los Angeles Unified School District, shaping countless young lives with patience and care. Born and raised in Pennsylvania, she moved to California as a young woman and met her husband, Robert B. Steel.
She is survived by her daughters, Nancy and Barbara, and by her grandchildren: Colin, Brandon, Claire, Amanda, Thomas, and Robert — all of whom remember her with deep affection and gratitude.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, July 12, 2025 at New Hope Lutheran Church, 10 North Breiel Boulevard, Middletown, OH 45044.
