Dedicated Wife, Loving Mother, Grandmother, Great and Great-Great Grandmother, Audrey Elizabeth McKnight Anderson, age 97, went to be with our Lord on Tuesday morning, February 17, 2015, in Midland, Texas. She was born on January 24, 1918 in Craig County, Oklahoma to William L. McKnight and Florence E. George. She was the youngest of four children. Audrey lost both parents by the age of 7 and lived her childhood with her grandmother and other family members in Oklahoma.
Audrey married the love of her life, Mid T. Anderson on July 8, 1933. They made their home on a farm in Mannford, Oklahoma and had two children, Anna Marie and Gary. There are many fond memories of going to the farm for wonderful family meals, to work in the garden, fish at the pond and ride on the tractor. Audrey was very active in the community as a church member, president of the Home Extension Club, volunteering for the Red Cross at blood drives, counting ballots for elections, and cooking and sewing for the elderly. Audrey and Mid were pillars of their community helping so many that called in need.
Audrey dearly loved arts and crafts, sewing, quilting and cooking. She won many state awards and blue ribbons for her cooking and sewing. She also enjoyed camping and fishing with Mid and friends at their favorite fishing spots. They enjoyed nearly 65 years of marriage and love before Mid passed away in April of 1998. In 2005 Audrey moved to Midland, Texas. She stayed active at Manor Park teaching a sewing class and making friends with her cooking.
Audrey leaves a legacy of overcoming hardship, treasuring the gift of family, faith in God and delight in the beauty of His creation. She was preceded in death by her parents William and Florence, her loving husband Mid, her brother Jim McKnight, her sisters Vada Trundle, Billie Gaines, and grandson Jeffrey Anderson. She is survived by her daughter, Anna Marie Anderson of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, her son, Gary Anderson and his wife Susie Anderson of Granbury, Texas. Four grandchildren, Cathy (Ward) Cheney, Steve (Lisa) Fillmore, Julie Lind, and Janice Anderson. Five great grandchildren, Cory (Stephanie) Cheney, Candice (Mark) Bloyd, Brett (Catherine) Fillmore, Derek Fillmore, Preston Fillmore, Kendall Anderson, Katie Lind, Carson Lind, Megan Raden, Jared Bromstead, one great, great granddaughter Kaia Cheney, and numerous extended family members. She also leaves behind many friends and caretakers at The Village at Manor Park whose loving kindness allowed her to remain in good health and spirit until her death.
Viewing will be Friday February 20, 2015 at Ellis Funeral Home in Midland, Texas. A funeral service will be held in Mannford, Oklahoma in the chapel of Oakhill Cemetery at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 21, 2015.
