

Dick Royce Fletcher, age 79, left this world to receive the reward he was called to in Heaven on Thursday, December 9, 2010. Dick was born to John and Elna (Davis) Fletcher on May 31, 1931 near Clarendon, Texas. He attended grade school in the Panhandle of Texas and the family eventually called Crosbyton, Texas home where Dick spent his high school years. Dick is an Army Veteran, serving in the Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1954 when he received his Honorable Discharge. After serving his country, Dick attended Abilene Christian College for a year and then transferred to Texas Tech University where he graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Agricultural Education in 1958. On May 9, 1958, Dick married Betty Sue Rabun of Lubbock, Texas. Dick and Betty were married for 42 years until her passing on July 8, 2000. Dick and Betty had three children; Richard Royce Fletcher of Midland, Texas, Kandace Kay Zimmerman of Round Rock, Texas, and John Rabun Fletcher of Russell, Kansas. Dick spent the majority of his career as a District Soil Conservationist for the United States Agricultural Department in northwestern Kansas. He raised his family in Goodland, Kansas while working for the Soil Conservation Service. He retired in May, 2000. Dick leaves behind many close friends and extended family in Goodland. Dick dearly loved his fellowship with all that attended and passed through the Goodland Church of Christ. In October, 2000 after the passing of his first wife, Dick moved to Midland, Texas. There he met Peggy Laney. They were married in Midland on June 19, 2004. The couple lived happily in Midland in the Manor Park residential area. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elna Fletcher and his first wife, Betty Sue (Rabun) Fletcher. Dick is survived by his second wife, Peggy Fletcher; son; Rick Fletcher and wife Rhonda; his daughter, Kandi Zimmerman and husband Mark; son, John Fletcher and wife Heather. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; Andrew Zimmerman, Chelsie (Fletcher) Sargent, Matthew Zimmerman, Christin Fletcher, Catherine (Fletcher) Thompson, Jessica (Fletcher) Sudlow, and Derek Zimmerman, and one step grandchild, Justice Becker. Dick is also survived by 3 brothers; Bill Fletcher and wife Vonda; Ben Fletcher and wife Linda; Weldon Fletcher and wife Nancy; three sisters; Verna Green, Audene Abraham and husband Alan, and Edna Murriel Norman, and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by the children of Peggy's first marriage; Jatonne Echeveria and husband Larry, Jan Glasgow and husband Terry, John Laney and wife Hollye and five grandchildren. Family visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at Ellis Funeral Home in Midland, Texas. Funeral services will be at Golf Course Road Church of Christ in Midland, Texas at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 15, 2010. A graveside service will follow at 3:30 p.m. in Crosbyton, Texas.
