

Don is survived by his beloved wife, Marcia Ormand of Midland and his children, Beth and Larry Mathis, of Oklahoma City, Suzanne and Scott Tatum of Midland, Melissa and Donn James of Midland and Robin Watson of Fort Worth, Texas; his grandchildren, Amy and James Klein of Dallas, Texas, Julie and Josh Tatum of Midland, Annabelle Grace Watson and Sophia Elizabeth Watson of Fort Worth, Michael Ledbetter, Autumn Carrasco and Amber Carrasco of Odessa, Hayden Welch, Brynna Welch and Lynden Welch of Midland; his step-children, Mark Kelley of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Loretta and Brad Welch of Midland and Jessica and Justin Carrasco of Odessa; and his brother, Lewis Wayne Ormand of Odessa.
He was born on July 30, 1935 in Longview, Texas to parents Elizabeth and Ray Ormand. He graduated from Texas Tech University with degrees in Petroleum Engineering and Geology.
Following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, Don enjoyed an interesting and successful career as an independent oil and gas producer and operator. He developed many lifelong friendships through his business life in West Texas.
Don was a long time member of Golf Course Road Church of Christ. He was an accomplished golfer and for many years spent almost every afternoon on the golf course with his best buddies at the Odessa Country Club. Don’s other favorite pastimes were fishing, watching Major League baseball and Texas Tech football, reading, studying history, discussing politics, laughing and telling stories. Don was a lifelong supporter of the Red Raider athletic department and enjoyed interacting with the athletic directors and football coaches. Most of all, Don passionately loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.
Don is preceded in death by his late wife of 40 years, and mother of their four daughters, Ann James Ormand, of Midland and his parents, Elizabeth and Ray Freeman Ormand, of Odessa.
A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, January 29th in the Ellis Funeral home in Midland, Texas at 3:00 pm.
