Dorothy Ann Beckham, 89, passed into eternal rest on September 11, 2013. She was born in Bell County, Texas the oldest child of Loyd and Julia Hicks on July 8, 1924. Her family moved to Austin, Texas in the 1930’s. During World War II the family moved to Brownwood, Texas where she met Sherwood Beckham. They were married on December 12, 1942. In 1949 they moved to Midland, Texas. Dorothy fell in love with the retail business and worked for Career Girl, and as a department head and buyer in accessories, lingerie, cosmetics and women’s wear for Dunlaps’s and Grammer Murphy. She loved flowers, music, reading, cooking and doing and caring for others. She had a wonderful sense of humor to her last days.
Most important to her was her family. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother and aunt and her family and friends will miss her greatly.
She is survived by her daughter, Denise Beckham and her son, Travis Beckham both of Midland; a sister, Virginia Sessions and her husband Ed of Baird, Texas; a brother, Loyd Hicks of Odessa, TX; and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Sherwood; her parents, Loyd and Julia Hicks; a brother Jimmy Hicks; a sister Bernice Hart; and a nephew Tommy Hart.
