

Doug was born in Jena, Louisiana, to Carlton Douglas “Dugan” Hopkins and Linda Nelson Hopkins on August 10, 1961. His family moved to Crane, Texas in 1971 where he attended school until his junior year. He then moved to Midland, Texas where he graduated from Midland Lee High School in 1979.
Doug attended Midland College, Texas Tech University and Angelo State University where he graduated in 1984. His first day there he met his love and wife, Carrie Lynn York. They were married in 1989.
Doug worked in the oilfield from age 16 off and on and was currently employed by Nova Star, LP.
Doug never met a stranger and had friends throughout the country. He helped anyone in need. He was a devoted and loving husband, dad, son, brother, uncle and friend. He was an avid nature lover, who enjoyed being in the beautiful mountains of New Mexico and Colorado. He inherited his love of traveling the roads of America from his Mom and Pawpaw Nelson. He followed the weather and was always fascinated by it. Boxing was his passion, and he was an expert on it. He loved life and woke up joyously singing every morning.
He attended Homeline Baptist Church in Midland, Texas.
He is survived by his wife, Carrie Hopkins of Stanton, his son Samuel Hopkins of Stanton, his daughter Sarah Hopkins of Stanton, his parents Carlton Douglas Hopkins and Linda Nelson Hopkins of Midland, his sister Lisa Holifield of Midland, and his sister and brother in law Jane and Craig Smith of Midland, many beloved nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins whom he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Steve Holifield, Jr and a niece Hunter Ann Smith, his grandparents Elemena and Sam Hopkins, Joy and Dave Nelson.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, at Ellis Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 9:00 a.m. at Temple Baptist Church with Rob Foreman officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
