Evelyn Stevens Johnston

She was born Jennie Evelyn Stevens on December 29, 1921 in Van Zant County, Texas to Joseph C. Stevens and Katherine L. Jones Stevens, coming to Midland as a child where she grew up and started her own family.

Evelyn was a charter member of the Second Baptist Church of Baytown, Texas, and remained a member for 58 years. Her focus in life was her family and her church. She was a tireless worker in both. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Ed; sister, Effie; and her first husband, Richard Maurice Crawley in 1957; her second husband, L. D. Johnston in 1998; and step-son, Douglas W. Johnston and his son, Richard.

She is survived by her brother, J. C. Stevens, sister, Pauline Wesson; her son, Richard Maurice Crawley, Jr., and wife, Paula; her daughter, Jean Anne Crawley, and her step-daughter, Louise Giudice and husband, Vint. Survivors also include her grandchildren, Steffani Maureen Crawley and husband, Steve Hoover; Todd Patrick Crawley and wife, Royette and their son and daughter, Austin and Ashley; Mindi Collins and her two sons, Danny and Spencer; Debbie Mitchell and daughter, Stephanie; Donna Lazeski and husband, Tom and their two sons, Matthew and Phillip; Sandra Giudice, and two daughters, Emily and Elizabeth; and Angie McCorkle and son, Jeremy and daughter, Markie. Evelyn has a total of 11 great-grandchildren.

Family will welcome friends at Ellis Funeral Home (801 Andrews Highway, Midland, TX 79701) on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 from 5:00pm to 6:30pm. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at 11:00am at Resthaven Memorial Park (4616 North Big Spring Street, Midland, TX 79705).
