Linda Ferrell King-Powell, age 76, peacefully gained her angel wings March 31, 2024. How fitting that GOD called her home on Easter Sunday. Ferrell was born on October 9, 1947 at the Western Clinic Hospital of Midland, Texas. She was born to Herbert “Foster” King and Dorothy Marie Aber. Ferrell was fortunate to have a bonus artist father, Herbert McKinley, and sister, Judy McKinley Moffett.
Ferrell spent her childhood with her best friend and brother, Guy Foster King. They grew up in Midland and spent their summers at the King Ranch in Greenwood riding horses and spending time with cousins. Ferrell and Guy spent some time living in the mountains of Colorado with their father, which she always recalled as some of the best memories of her life, as she was with her favorite people. Ferrell attended Midland High School and graduated in May 1966 where she went on to attend West Texas A&M.
She married Cecil “Pat” Powell at the Greenwood Baptist Church on August 19, 1967. They had two daughters, Carrie DeAnn Powell and Courtney Suzanne Powell-Cox that changed their lives forever. Ferrell loved her daughters fiercely and lived for them. From PTA president, to dressing as the Bonham Tiger Mascot, coaching fast pitch softball with Mugs, she always had a winning team. Ferrell was a party planner galore and with her partner in crime, Sharon Boyd, opened a successful costume shop, Abra Kadabra. Ferrell was adventurous and treasured her cousin’s trips, in which they traveled all over and overseas with family and friends. Ferrell said true, pure love arrived when her granddaughter Savannah Addison and grandson Foster Clayton were born. Her whole heart belonged to her grandchildren. Ferrell took her grandchildren on annual trips to New York City, which became a tradition.
Ferrell is known as Jim, “Sweet Jimmy” and most importantly “Yaya”. Ferrell had a gift of words and literary skills like no other. She was the number one prankster, funny generous, caring to others, and all God’s creations. Ferrell loved all animals and nature. She was a beautiful person inside and out and impacted everyone’s lives she came into contact with. To know her was to love her. Ferrell always impressed on her family and friends to live life to the fullest and never leave anything unsaid. Ferrell always spoke her mind, and you always knew where she stood.
Ferrell will be truly missed, but her beauty will live on in her daughters and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Pat Powell; daughters, Carrie Powell and Courtney Powell-Cox; son-in-law, Aaron Cox; sister, Judy Moffett and husband Mike; grandchildren, Savannah, Foster Cox, and bonus granddaughter, Lauren Kelly; along with many cousins.
Funeral services will be held at Greenwood Baptist Church on Friday, April 5th at 2:00 PM. Arrangements have been entrusted to Ellis Resthaven Funeral Home.
