

Frances Aileen Sparks Oakes passed away from this life into a better one on August, 28, 2011 at Hospitality House in Lubbock, Texas. She was born to Powell and Lois (Whitehead) Roberts in Voss, Texas. Their family moved to and lived in Abilene until they took up residence in Midland. She
attended Abilene Christian College. She worked in First National Bank, West Texas Welders Supply, and Permian Telco Federal Credit Union all in Midland. She was a faithful member of North A and Tennessee Church of Christ. Later on she worked with Meals on Wheels and R.S.V.P. She was a kind, generous, encouraging woman who wanted to do the Lord’s will.
She is preceded in death by her first husband, Leonard S. (Sparkey) Sparks. They were married from January 1945 – June 1983 when he passed away. She married James Oakes in November 1986 and they were married until he passed away in September 1996.
Survivors include her brother, Wayne Roberts of Marble Falls, and sister, Joann (James) McKandles of Lubbock. Her children are Don (Carolyn) Sparks of Victoria, Barbara (Sunny) Welch of Lubbock, and Nadine Oakes Riley (daughter of James Oakes) of Spring. Her grandchildren are Chuck (Lauren) Sparks of Grapevine, Chad (Leah) Sparks of Mansfield, Chance (Ashley) Sparks of San Marcos, Tammy (Rudy) Morris of Spring, Brian Riley of Spring. She is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Memorial services are held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at Ellis Funeral Home in Midland, Texas with Greg Fleming officiating.
