Georgann Harben passed from earth on June 4, 2015. She lived 85 full and vibrant years. Georgann was born in Trinidad, CO and spent her teenage years in Tyler, TX, the daughter of George and Ann Rahal. She had a sister, Pegi. She earned an arts degree from TWU. Her extended family lived in Texas, Oklahoma and Colorado.
Early on Georgann, or GA as she was known to her friends, showed a talent for art. In fact, she worked to improve her craft for decades. Well into her 80s GA took art classes at Midland Community College. GA was an accomplished artist. Mostly known for her paintings, she showed great skill at oils and watercolors. Later in her art studies she turned to ceramics and demonstrated yet another talent. GA was an avid reader of art and cooking magazines and books as well as current events publications. She also read novels and biographies.
In 1956 she met and married James L. Harben. The couple moved to Midland, TX shortly after where they resided for the rest of her life. She worked as a commercial artist for Grammer Murphy for approximately 20 years. She did the fashion illustration ads that were placed in the Midland Reporter Telegram. Jim is a retired petroleum geologist.
Jim and GA thrived in Midland. They frequently entertained their friends and family. She was known for her cooking and mainly for her deserts. She took great pride in the presentation of meals when entertaining people in her home. She had friends from all walks of life in Midland and beyond, and took great joy in their accomplishments. The couple has two children, George and Dana.
GA is survived by her husband, son and daughter and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Tuesday June 9, 2015 at Ellis Funeral Home between the hours of 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm. The funeral service will be held Wednesday June 10, 2015 at 1:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
