Helen Louise Greer

Helen Louis Putman Greer passed away Monday October 14, 2019. She was born January 11, 1930 to Lester Noah Putman and Emma Burns Putman in Athens, Alabama. Helen married Roy S. Greer on December 4, 1948 in Orange, Texas. They moved to Midland, Texas on October 31, 1953. Helen was a great wife, mother and memaw. She was a faithful member of Kelview Heights Baptist Church. Helen was preceded in death by her husband Roy S. Greer, her parents Lester and Emma Putman, brothers Horace Putman, Bobby Putman, Billy Putman and sister Betty Putman. Helen is survived by Dan Greer his wife Gayla from The Woodlands, Texas, Sherry Greer Uselton her husband Danny from Spring, Texas, Bobby Greer his wife Marie, Linda Greer Turner and husband David Turner, Roy W. Greer and his wife Judy, Jerry Greer and wife Nira, David Greer, Greg Greer and his wife Jennifer all of Midland, Texas. She was also survived by her cousin Chris Smith of Weatherford, Texas who lived with her during their childhood years after Chris’ parents were deceased. There are 36 grandchildren and 41 great grandchildren.

Helen is found in Proverbs 31. She loved her family and being surrounded by them as she gathered them for many special occasions and dinners. To the last day before her death she was having Sunday dinner for her family. It was never known there were times when we were poor because she took the smallest of things and made them so special. She was conservative and sewed our clothes making dresses and shirts and pajamas before everything was so commercialized. She sewed with love staying up late at night, getting up early in the mornings to surprise us making us feel so incredibly special with the greatest things we ever had. She read her bible daily and was an example of the scriptures. She prayed for everyone that all would walk the straight and narrow especially when we were broken. She scolded her family in the most loving way so that we would walk toward righteousness guiding us away from the ways of the world. She was never selfish. She was encourager and peacemaker, wise in all her ways.

A visitation will be held on Thursday October the 17, 2019 from 6pm-8pm at Ellis Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Friday October 18, 2019 at 10:30am at Kelview Heights Baptist Church on 402 W Scharbauer Dr. Midland, Texas.
